Thanks go out to Shawn Morrison for his work on these photos.
Oh right … rehearsals!
Posted in The Books on July 15th, 2009 by mattMan, it’s a lot of work to put on one of these “play” things. It’s a full time job. I think my phone has started smoking from all the emails, phone calls, messages, etc.
From discussions of “how much rubber is enough rubber?” to “which photos go on Facebook?” … sometimes you forget you actually get to rehearse some scenes … and make a play. That’s the fun part. Not looking at a spreadsheet and trying to figure out how many ads you can afford, heh.
So last night we got to tackle some scene-work. Thankfully we’ve had a couple readings in the past with Scott & Aadya, so they come in with so much already woven into their work. We all know these characters now … it’s about making the most positive choices in the moments to bring them out. And we’re making strong and swift progress on that now. It’s so exciting.
I can’t wait till the whole thing is on it’s feet. Mike and I have talked about this play for years … Scott, Aadya and I have been with these characters for a year now … I’m ecstatic to show you what we’ve done.
Performance dates are now public knowledge. Tickets go on sale soon. It’s all happening.
Photo Shoot – check
Posted in The Books on July 7th, 2009 by mattWell the weather cooperated with us this evening and it looks like we should have gotten what we need tonight. Haven’t had a chance to look at what we got yet, but what I saw got me excited.
More to come, of course.
In the meantime, a pic of our photographer, Shawn Morrison, in action.
Marketing Mixer
Posted in The Books on June 27th, 2009 by mattHad the chance to meet a lot of our fellow Fringe compatriots this weekend at the Marketing Mixer. Great time. I always feel odd going to “networking events” and such. It’s not my forte. Generally, I’d prefer to remain anonymous in the corner. I’m a director. I’d prefer to be backstage.
However, it was easy to chat with everyone I got the chance to talk to. It’s always great to feel a part of a group of people who are all working towards more or less the same goals.
I’ll link to the people I exchanged info with here this week. Hopefully, we can connect with a community here … and actually get some traffic going on both sides. I feel we (IP) have a good engine here, but we have to start drawing people to it this week. All in advancement of the goal of getting butts in the seats.
Almost There
Posted in The Books on June 27th, 2009 by mehReached the end of the final draft tonight. Feeling really good about it, but tomorrow we’ll have a better idea of how much work is left to do.
Impulsive Imagery
Posted in The Books on June 26th, 2009 by mattSo many ideas get thrown to the side when you’re working on a project. And I think this may end up being one of them, so I wanted to give it some life here on The Books blog before it faded into obscurity.
I thought we were going to have to create our own ad campaign for this production. Our promotional designer had an emergency, and it seemed possible we wouldn’t make our first ad deadline. So a Plan B was necessary … and quick.
Luckily, our lead actress is the wife of our playwright. While I imagine this may lead to some awkwardness at some point, here it was a major asset. I suggested to Michael “look, take some pictures … A boot, some books … ” and he sent me a about a dozen options … 18 hours later … an ad.
Corporations … major theater companies … can’t move that fast. So we must remember that our size is sometimes an asset, not always an obstacle.
In the end, I think our promotional designer will provide us something different to promote online and in the local rags … but for now, this is our honorary image.
