Michael Edison Hayden

Michael Edison Hayden is an Egyptian-American writer originally from Queens, New York.

Michael completed his BFA at NYU/Tisch School of the Arts in the Department of Dramatic Writing in 2001, and his MFA at the Iowa Writer’s Workshop in 2007. He has taught Playwriting and History of Theatre for the University of Iowa, English Literature for Adelphi University, and written over fifteen plays.

His work as a playwright has been produced or developed at New York Theatre Workshop, The Flea, The Williamstown Theatre Festival, and is represented by Paradigm.

Michael’s play, The Books, was produced at The Cherry Pit as part of the 2009 New York International Fringe Festival, where it received critical acclaim from The Village Voice, Time Out: New York, and was the critic’s pick of Backstage Magazine. The playscript is now published, andavailable for purchase from Original Works.

Michael currently has two screenplays in various stages of development: The Exhibitionists, and The Books - both based upon original stage-plays. Filming of The Exhibitionists is in post-production, and The Books is set to begin production in 2012.

Michael’s work as a music and literary critic has been published in PapertrailNerve.com and Time Out Delhi. As a journalist he interviewed convicted serial killer Umesh Reddy from the death row facility of Belgaum Central Prison for GQ India and theHindustan Times. More recently, Michael traveled to Beijing to cover China’s surreal transition from communist stronghold to luxury paradise for the January 2012 issue of GQ.

Michael currently lives in Mumbai, India where he writes as an Associate Editor for GQ Magazine.
